Located on the Candolim/Sinquerim stretch, 10 Downing Street is a seasonal pub with a small dance floor – a favourite with tourists of all age groups. There are no cover charges and drinks are available from its well-stocked bar that is laden with fine wines as well. The nightclub opens in the evening and serves multicuisine food.

CAFÉ MAMBO’S

If you are really looking for a wild night out, Café Mambo’s at Baga is the place to go to. It’s one of the most happening places in Goa where people from all walks of life meet up and have a whale of a good time. You would enjoy the chilled-out open-air ambience while you pick from the multicuisine menu and listen to some hip-hop, house and retro music. Rub shoulders with the Page 3 crowd at this pub which remains open until the wee hours. Cover charges sometimes range from Rs.200 to 800.

Club Blue in Calangute is part of La Calypso Hotel in Baga, a nightspot that’s open round the year. Dark interior with tiny blue lights, and psychedelic lights when the music plays – that’s what gives this place its special feel. Expect DJ music of all genres most of the time, and some new bands on stage once in a while, while you choose from the exotic cocktails, Scotch and other imported liquors and fine wines. This place draws locals as well as tourists. Cover charge depends on the season and shows.

CLUB CUBANA

Club Cubana is arguably one of the most popular party spots in Goa and attracts a heady mix of Page 3 people, splurging tourists as well as locals. Located atop Arpora Hill, Club Cubana has DJs coming from across the world to liven up its nights. The club, surrounded by palm trees, overlooks the sea and the sparkling lights of the village look like embellishments on a royal carpet laid out against the dark backdrop below. You would need to drive up from the foot of the hill to reach the club and the club provides jeeps too. Cover charges, ranging from Rs.600 to 1000, include major Indian liquors and there is a separate payment counter as well fro high-end Indian and foreign liquors. Women are allowed free entry on Ladies’ Nights hosted every Wednesday.

CLUB TITO’S

Club Tito’s at Baga is known across the country ever since it underwent a makeover during the post-hippi era – a celeb joint where people would shell out just about any amount to be around on New Year’s Eve. Being a haven for party animals is sometimes a bane here with crowds getting rough at times at this all-night disc which is more of a haunt for young people throughout the year and foreigners during season. Famous DJ’s keep the nights rocking while a choice of dishes from a multicuisine menu is on offer to go with the drinks. Cover charges range from Rs.600 to 1000 against which the drinks are free.

CLUB CAVALA

Where do you go for a good time in Baga if you are on the right side of 30? The answer is the Cavala lounge. Great place to meet interesting locals, relish delicious Goan food, drink beer and participate in an all night session with a rocking Goan band or sit and hum to the sound of jazz. Taste their excellent Lamb Croquettes, which are lightly spiced mince of lamb rolled in breadcrumbs and served with a tangy sauce Americaine, the Seafood Bisque, a delicately blended soup of fish and prawns with a dash of brandy and cream – served with croutons and Cavala Shrimp Cocktail, tender whole shrimp in an house-special Cocktail sauce, on a bed of fine chopped lettuce, and served with herb butter toast. Cover charges are Rs.500 upwards.

CLUB WEST END

A good hangout for young people, Club West End plays good DJ music and you could jive to the tunes on a fairly large dance floor. The right place if you fancy retro, hip-hop and trance. Located a top a hill in Sangolda Village, Saligao, the club has a well-stocked bar with a variety of IMFLs. A chillout joint where you would need to pay cover charges ranging from Rs.300 to 600 to dance until the wee hours.

CONGO RESTAURANT & LOUNGE

Congo at Casa Baga is one of the classiest nightspots in Goa run by fashion designer Malini Ramani. A seasonal nightspot where you would get to sip Maojitos, Tangerine Margarita, Cosmopolitans and Daiquiris. It draws as many tourists as the Page 3 crowd. There are no cover charges, but house rules apply during peak season.

FAHRENHEIT

A perennial party place with a dance floor right on the beach and giant screen to watch soccer – Fahrenheit is definitely the place for sports buffs and party animals alike. Expect a mix of foreigners and locals who jive to DJ music. Pick from a multicuisine menu and choose from the well-stocked bar at this joint, where there are no cover charges except during the Christmas and New Year parties.

HAVANA

A taste of Fidel Castro’s Cub in Candolim. Six types of Mojitos (the national Cuban drink) and delicious grilled Cuban pork shops bring out the Cuban flavour in Goa. Set on a landscaped lawn in Candolim. Great place to grab a Mojito before heading to Baga. Owned and operated by the Tito’s and Mambo’s team. Cover @Rs.500. Drinks range from Rs.250 upwards.

On the Rocks near Tito’s at Baga is a seasonal nightspot with beautiful lounge tents and comfy seating. From late evenings to early mornings, this place is frequented by tourists and a young and hep Indian crowd. Most frequently played music is lounge. If you yearn for Goan trance music, Nine Bar is probably the place to head for. This seasonal bar on Ozran Beach in Anjuna is an absolute trance music place where you would find a motley crowd shaking and moving on an open dance floor. The atmosphere is casual and inhibition-free with dancing, drinking and smoking all happening at the same time at this place which is on a vantage point atop the Ozran cliff and offers a fine view of the sea. Both locals and foreigners throng the place and there are no cover charges except during peak season.

A trendy nightclub done up the fashion designer Wendell Rodricks, Ozone is part of the Goa Marriott. Enjoy live DJ music, mostly club and retro, 10pm onwards, especially during weekends. Expect a decent and classy crowd comprising mainly hotel guests. Pick your choice of snacks and sip your Cosmopolitan, Margaritas and Mojitos at this aficionado’s paradise that serves Indian and imported liquors and fine wines. PARADISO DISCOTHEQUE

A seasonal discotheque that opens only during the tourist season, Paradiso at Anjuna is just one of the few places where you can enjoy Goa’s famous trance music. Paradiso is for night owls and opens only 10pm onwards to attract a motley crowd of locals and foreigners. Jive to trance, hip-hop and house numbers while you admire a breathtaking view of the sea.

Enjoy a match of soccer with your favourite drink at this sports bar which also claims to have the largest screen in Panaji. They play CD music on weekdays and a DJ plays music on weekends. A favourte with foreign tourists, Utopian Retreats in Calangute is an open-air nightspot on the beach with an underground discotheque. The music played here is truly eclectic with afro, hip-hop, house and party being the favourites. They have a well-stocked bar and a multicuisine restaurant and the fun starts from 10pm onwards. Depend on the season, cover charges vary from Rs.200 to 500.

VANILLA LOUNGE

Vanilla Lounge in Candolim is another new entrant on the nightclub scene that has made it big in no time, making a mark with the Page 3 crowds pouring in. It is bang on the Candolim beach – a simple shack with old-world furniture and a large bar counter at one end. You would get to hear all kinds of music at this resto-bar, where Saturdays are retro nights, Wednesdays are for live rock, Fridays are for hip-hop and Sundays are for Karaoke. Sign up for belly-dance and pole-dance classes during season, or for some yoga on the beach. Sip Margaritas, Va Va Vanilla and home-made Baileys and choose from their vast multicuisine menu. Cover charges are pegged at Rs.200 per couple on Saturdays.
